Ram boys lose second hoops game of the weekend

The Ram boys basketball team played a long, frustrating game in Perry Saturday afternoon and lost their second game of the weekend. The Perry Blue Jays won 86-65, dropping the Rams to 3-2 overall. The game was non-conference; the Rams are 3-1 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference.

The Perry defense foiled the Rams, causing 25 turnovers (unofficially), 15 of them in the first half.

With the score at 10-5 after less than two minutes of play, the Blue Jays scored 16 unanswered points. The score was 26-5 before the Rams scored again. The score at the end of the first quarter was 29-11. The Blue Jays held a 21 point margin at halftime with a 48-27 score. They continued to dominate, leading by 25 at 68-43 after the third quarter. The gap was only slightly narrower with the Perry reserves playing in the fourth quarter, with the Perry victory by a 21 point margin.

Ram junior Trey Tucker, who averaged 27 points going into the game, scored just 10 points, including one three point shot in the first quarter. Junior Mark Gorsuch was the Rams’ leading scorer with 18 points, including four 3-point shots. Senior Landon Braun scored nine points with two 3-pointersRiah Nelsen scored eight points, Reid Lamoureux scored seven, Tyler Beger scored six, Matt Gordon scored three, and Jordan Hostetler and Max Neese each scored two points. It was Hostetler’s first basket on the varsity team.

The Rams were only a little shy of their average points per game of 68.5, while the Blue Jays far exceeded their average of 64.5 points.
